RESEARCH INTERESTS

The main goal of my thesis is to investigate the role of marine sponges in the capture/transformation/production of volatile organic compounds (VOC) under natural conditions in order to understand their role in biogeochemical cycling, their potential effect at the community level under different seasonal conditions and their bioremediation capacity. Additionally, through this thesis I aim to explore the relationship and interdependence of nitrification and VOC uptake, contributing to the gap in knowledge about the role of sponges in biogeochemical cycles.
