BACKGROUND AND RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

My long-standing interest in science, technology and research originated during my studies in Optics and Telecommunications Engineering, leading up to a PhD in Marine Optics (Institut de Ciències del Mar ICM / Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya UPC, 2012). During my thesis and 2-year postdoc, I focused on the development of new processing methodologies applied to hyperspectral optical oceanographic data with the aim to improve the current capabilities to automatically identify different phytoplankton pigment assemblages in the ocean. In parallel to my research, I also gained experience teaching to undergraduate students as a part-time lecturer during several years (Dept. of Optics, UPC). In 2015, after a turn in my professional career, I acquired further experience in science management, fundraising and dissemination, working as grant management officer at the ICM in different European projects (H2020 MSCA ITN SINGEK, MSCA IF, FP7 ESONET Network of Excellence, PHYTOSCOPE -Total Foundation, MarineBiotech ERANET, etc.). I am currently the Project Manager of the EU H2020 ERC Advanced Grant  SUMMIT led by Prof. Rafel Simó and provide assistance to researchers at the ICM level as one of the officers of the Research Support Office – Project Management Unit. My commitment in responsible research and institutional development has resulted as well in a high involvement in the ICM Equality Task Force, as a promoter and active member of this working group since its establishment in 2017.
