Research Group on Marine Biogeochemistry and Global Change

This research group, funded by Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government) has, as its main goal, to evaluate/diagnose the effects of global change on the marine environment, with emphasis on the alteration of biogeochemical cycles, their consequences and feedbacks on climate.

We focus in the following aspects of global change:

  1. Paleo-perspectives of global change; new proxies, the geological record and time series.
  2. Global change and benthos; bioindicators and mitigation services.
  3. Global change and marine ecosystems; ocean acidification, warming, plastic pollution.
  4. Global change and population dynamics; multi-organism associations and interactions, expansion of invasive species.
  5. Global change, biogeochemical processes, ocean-atmosphere exchanges and carbon cycle.
  6. Global change and marine aerosol formation, ageing, cloud microphysics, polar regions.
  7. Climate change in Catalonia; coastal and marine ecosystems, carbon balance and sinks.
